Tom holds a BS in Journalism, MS in International Human Resource Management, and a PhD in US-Latin America Diplomatic History. He is winner of several awards including the Public Relations Society of America Silver Anvil Award and is a two-time winner of the Thomas Jefferson Award for Advertising and Creativity. He is also author and narrator of several radio and television documentaries.
Connell has had extensive media coverage, appearing in all major US newspapers and media outlets. He is the cultural “go-to” authority for the BBC World Service with Cross Cultural Communication tips and strategies for their multi-million listeners. He has appeared on PBS and "The Take Away" morning radio programs and is a member of the prestigious National Speakers Association. His articles have appeared in numerous publications and on-line magazines and newspapers such as Privilege Magazine, American Chronicle, and California Chronicle.

Connell’s most recent book, “America’s Japanese Hostages: The WWII Plan for a Japanese Free Latin America” exposed a US Top Secret WWII program involving the forced movement of Latin Americans of Japanese background to the US in order to trade them for Americans.
His next book, “For Internationals Only! Dr. Culture Unlocks The Secrets of American Culture” is scheduled for publication late this year.
A former military officer, Connell worked with US Special Operations Forces for nearly a decade directing the only Cross Cultural Communications Training - Intercultural Communications Training course in the Department of Defense. Today he and his specialized teams train international businesses, civilian and military government agencies as well as international audiences on Cross Cultural Communication differences in today's business and government world as well as Cross Cultural Communications Strategies to overcome often, generations of cross cultural communications barriers. Connell’s company is the international trainer for the US Coast Guard.
